Nagorno Karabakh
Between 1991 and 1994, 30.000 people died durin the war in Nagorno Karabakh. Most of them were young men between 17 and 25. In 1994 a ceasefire was decreed, but not the end of the war. Nagorno Karabakh auto-proclaimed its independency establishing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, although no one recognizes the new State. The war produced more than 700.000 refugees in Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Many refugees still live in the rubble of ghost villages and they can’t take advantages of their status of refugees. Even though Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh are different nations, they share the currency, passports and also a military alliance. For more than 10 years afther the ceasefire, under the aegis of OSCE and USA, seeral teams of diplomatics have tried to get to an agreement between opposite sides: Azerbaijan who reclaim Nagorno Karabakh territory and Armenia who asks for independence of the small repubblic. A solution has still to come.
